What a challenging and unforgettable school year this has been! While many of us experienced sadness and disappointment about missing exciting learning, our teachers and friends, there was still so much to celebrate. We learned to appreciate the opportunities to listen and learn through distance learning. We learned to use some new technology tools and how to communicate with each other in different ways. We learned that our children and teachers are so resilient, flexible, innovative and strong. We also celebrated that our diverse Mosby Woods community is a family where respect, love and unity are the values we uphold. This time away from seeing our kids and being able to give a hug or high five has strengthened our commitment to bring the joy when we are all back in the school building. We are grateful for your words of kindness and appreciation for all of our staff. We are grateful for your patience, flexibility and support in partnering with us to teach your kids. Our hope is that our Mosby Woods family returns together in an even stronger more cohesive way where we continue to inspire our Mustangs to Learn, Give and Thrive. I hope you have a restful summer and continue to stay safe, healthy and connected.
Congratulations to all of our Mustangs!

Competing in the very difficult Gold Division of the WordMasters Challenge™, third grader Dalton Avery earned a perfect score of 20 on the recent challenge. Nationally, only 32 third graders achieved this result. Other students from Mosby Woods Elementary who achieved outstanding results in the meet include third graders Rohan Dash and Elsa Edin, fourth graders Isis Nzekwe and Angelina O, fifth grader Clara Yin and sixth grader Diya Paudyal.
Sixth grader Catherine Williamson also earned Individual Highest Honors in the overall competition with a cumulative score of 56 out of a possible 60 points. Highest Honors are reserved for students who place among the top 10-15 students in their division. The students were coached in preparation for the WordMasters Challenge™ by their classroom teacher.
The WordMasters Challenge™ is an exercise in critical thinking that first encourages students to become familiar with a set of interesting new words (considerably harder than grade level), and then challenges them to use those words to complete analogies expressing various kinds of logical relationships. Working to solve the analogies helps students learn to think both analytically and metaphorically. Although most vocabulary enrichment and analogy-solving programs are designed for use by high school students, WordMasters Challenge™ materials have been specifically created for younger students in grades three through eight.
